Sunday Funday: Flight Delay Drama & Tour de France Surprises
So, itβs 1 AM, and guess what? Our flight just got canceled. π© The good news? We get to sleep in. The bad news? Our dream lunch reservation on a picturesque island is looking like a no-go. But hey, life happens!
We dragged ourselves to the airport at 9 AM, ready to catch the first flight out and head toβ¦
π NICE
After what felt like a lifetime (literally hours) at the airport, we finally boarded. But the fun didnβt stop thereβoh no. When we arrived in Nice, there was no place for our plane to land, so we circled in the sky for what felt like forever (an hour and a half, to be exact). By the time we touched down, we were absolutely zonked. π΄
We made a beeline for our hotel, desperate for a quick shower and some downtime. And then, as if by magic, we were greeted by the most incredible surprise
Our room had a stunning view of Nice β right by the port!
(Talk about a pick-me-up)
Once weβd caught our breath and taken in the scenery, it was time to venture out in search of food. But, plot twistβwe stumbled right into the route for the final miles of the Tour de France!
Like, what?! How did we get so lucky? This was honestly the best surprise ever. Iβm officially obsessed with the Tour de France nowβeveryone was so nice, so supportive, and just thrilled to be there, cheering nonstop for HOURS. We found a few spots to watch the bikers zoom by at what felt like light speed (seriously, they were going 40 km/h!), but eventually, hunger got the better of us, and we had to peel ourselves away.
We ended up grabbing the worst burger ever (but hey, we made a friend from Luxembourg, so silver lining?), and then we wandered over to Parc Vigier to check out the restaurant where we were supposed to have lunch (RIP to that plan). But the views of Coco Beach and Chateau de l'Anglais were STUNNING, so we werenβt too upset.
After soaking in the sights, we made our way back through the port and up to the Monument aux Morts de Rauba-Capeu to catch more Tour de France finishers racing to the end. And then, we had our first encounter with the Promenade des AnglaisβI was speechless.
It was love at first sight.
Seriously, I think Nice might be my new favorite place.
As we strolled along the Quai des Γtats-Unis, we watched the final mile of the Tour de France, surrounded by cheering crowds, and I just fell more in love with this city. β€οΈ
We then ventured into the Old City of Nice, weaving through the narrow alleyways and soaking in the charm of this amazing place. But then, we noticed a crowd gathering in Place MassΓ©naβcuriosity got the best of us, and we had to see what was going on. After squeezing through minimal security, we found ourselves in the middle of the winnerβs celebration for the Tour de France! The crowd erupted as the winner received his award, and just when we thought it couldnβt get any cooler, planes flew overhead, painting the sky with red, white, and blue smoke in the shape of the French flag. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments, and we couldnβt believe we were there to witness it.
With the winner crowned and the celebration winding down, we decided to keep exploring. We meandered through the Old City, stopping for gelato (of course), and wandered the beautiful alleyways until nightfall.
What a day! Weβre calling it a night and gearing up for whatever adventures tomorrow holds.
See you then!
